ABT - Online Workshop for Parents and House- or Educational-Teams 

Overview

Scope and Dates

Online workshops provide individual parent and practice teams with an introduction into the teaching strategies and learning objectives of ABT (Autism Specific Behavior Therapy).  Based on the team's specific case, participants get to know teaching methods that are scientifically recognized and have proven themselves in practice. Concrete method for dealing with challenging behavior are also demonstrated. 

 

Through role play and videos, concrete steps of ABT methods such as DiscreteTrial Teaching, Precision Teaching, Natural Language Paradigm, Visual Support, Video Modeling or Social Skill Training Programs are exemplified. The focus is on expanding the skills of the person with autism, such as communication, play, social behavior or academic goals. 

Participants

The workshop is aimed at parents/professionals and their home/educational teams who want to get to know the specific strategies of ABT.  We focus on their specific child/client and provide first steps of individual training and supervision.

The online workshop lasts three days wirth three hours, and is offered in small groups with a maximum of 8 participants from a team. Dates take place after 5:30 p.m. and are determined together with the participants.  

Prerequisites

Since this is an online workshop basic knowledge of Skype or Zoom is required. As some of the videos are in English, a knowledge of English is helpful.

Costs

A cost plan will be sent on request, once the individual concerns, the number and requirements of the participants have been stated. Parents can apply for the costs to be covered by the personal budget. 

Who gives the workshop?

Dr. Vera Bernard-Opitz is a German-American psychological psychotherapist for children, adolescents and adults with a specialization in behavior therapy. She works in the USA as a BCBA-D (Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctorate) and IBA (International Behavior Analyst). She is an internationally recognized autism specialist, book author and speaker. She supports parents, home teams and those affected from her "home towns" of Irvine (CA) and Hildesheim.
