Who is the target audience?

The online workshop is aimed at parents, home teams and instructional aides of children with autism who would like to learn about the practical approach of (ABT - Autism Specific Behavior Therapy)

What are the learning objectives?

Workshops take place on 4 consecutive Friday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 pm in a small group of up to 12 participants.
 

Day 1

Understanding and dealing with challenging behavior

Overview of ABT/ABA methods

Day 3

Insight into curricula: long-term and short-term goals for communication and social behavior

Introduction to home training

What is it about?

The course gives an insight into specific learning strategies of ABT and shows the concrete method for dealing with challenging behavior.  Learning strategies such as discrete and natural learning, precision learning, visual support and cognitive behavior modification are presented using video examples. Parents and their teams will gain an insight into learning objectives from curricula for people with autism.

Who gives the workshop?

Dr. Vera Bernard-Opitz is a German-American psychological psychotherapist for children, adolescents and adults with a specialization in behavior therapy. She works in the USA as a BCBA-D (Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctorate) and IBA (International Behavior Analyst). She is an internationally recognized autism specialist, book author and speaker. She supports parents, home teams and affected persons from her "home towns" in Irvine (CA) and Hildesheim.
